SVA RE-Branding

As a brand consultant and designer, I will explore potential directions for a comprehensive rebrand of the School of Visual Arts (SVA). Through in-depth research and strategic design thinking, I aim to help elevate the institution's visual identity.

By embracing this historical process, we connect modern creativity with centuries of artistic wisdom, where each roll reveals unique, unrepeatable patterns that showcase imperfection and spontaneity.

The humble ink roller, pioneered in the 18th century for printmaking, creates mesmerising organic textures that echo nature's own patterns. Its unpredictable marks, reminiscent of traditional woodblock prints, bring a raw, artistic authenticity to design.

As a designer examining SVA's brand identity, I've studied their current visual elements—from the iconic subway signs with colorful "ARTS" letters to their bold "Where Art Begins" campaign materials. Their visual language combines vibrant reds and blacks with dynamic typography, using starburst motifs and motivational messaging across various touchpoints. This analysis gives me clear direction on which heritage elements to preserve while exploring fresh approaches to elevate their brand presence.

In this SVA rebranding project, my goal was to enhance its visual direction while maintaining its clean and intuitive experience. While SVA’s existing identity is simple and functional, it lacks a strong visual personality. To address this, I emphasized handcrafted design, using typography and graphic shapes to create a more natural and dynamic visual effect. This approach not only preserves the brand’s modern appeal but also strengthens its distinctive artistic expression,
aligning with SVA’s spirit of creativity and experimentation.
